Getting ready for a day’s worth of shooting, Kate Winslet was spotted on set of “Mildred Pierce” in Queens, New York on Wednesday (June 2).
The English actress looked to be deep in conversation while sporting shorts, a long-sleeved top and some shades in between takes. In the 1930s-set drama, Kate stars as the title character, a single mother in middle-class Los Angeles during the Great Depression who is trying to earn her daughter Veda’s love, played by Evan Rachel Wood. Kate and Evan will be teaming up again in a future film called the “Splatter Sisters,” which is set to be a “sexploitation-serial-killer-slasher-road-movie circa 1989.” Hollywood Gossip
Kate Winslet braved the cameras for the first time after her much publicised split from filmmaker Sam Mendes as she took the couple's young son out for a movie.
The Academy Award winning actress has hardly been seen in public since announcing her split from Mendes after a seven-year-long marriage, reported Daily Mail online. The 34-year-old hid behind big dark sunglasses and clutched her six-year-old boy close to her as she ran into a waiting car. Dressed down in denim shorts, lace-free sneakers and a blue jumper, Winslet maintained an expressionless face as she shielded her son from the throng of paparazzi. She also has a daughter, nine-year-old Mia, from her first marriage to assistant director Jim Threapleton. The triplex property, where the couple lived for six years, is in the city's affluent Chelsea district and is said to have been put on the market for 3.9 million pounds. Mendes, 44, is believed to be living in an office that he has in the building, while the actress and the two children have remained in the three-bedroom, three-storey flat at the top of the building. She has spoken of her desire to move back to England to be closer to friends and family, but has been staying in Manhattan while she films a mini series 'Mildred Pierce'. Winslet fled to a Mexican resort post the announcement of the split with her two children to avoid the media glare.
Location junkies only have to make the short drive to Peekskill today for a hope at glimpsing Academy Award winner Kate Winslet shooting HBO's remake of "Mildred Pierce." On Location Vacations reports that the production is filming today around First Street and Crompond Road in Peekskill today.
HBO is remaking the classic 1940's James M. Cain adaptation which won Joan Crawford her only Academy Award. Todd Haynes, director of 2007s' "I'm Not There," starring Cate Blanchett, Ben Wishaw ("Bright Star"), Christian Bale, Richard Gere and Heath Ledger, is directing and wrote the screenplay. Winslet plays the title role of a divorced single mom who decides to open a restaurant business, which tears at the already-strained relationship with her her ambitious daughter. Evan Rachel Wood ("True Blood," "The Wrestler") and Guy Pearce co-star. Peekskill, only a couple of hours down the Thruway, is just one of several upstate locations that have managed to get some Hollywood location shooting in the past year. "Salt" and "The Other Guys" both did some filming in Albany during 2009.
Kate Winslet has joined PETA’s fight to save the tortured duck and geese. And India, too, is on her radar. The Oscar-winning actor has done a video that shows the suffering of ducks who are raised and killed for foie gras, the French delicacy, also served in high-end Indian hotels.
“PETA India will send this video to all Indian hotels, including the Taj and the Oberoi, that currently serve foie gras, to persuade them to strike cruelty off the menu. Foie gras is already banned in 16 countries and has been condemned by Pope Benedict, Prince Charles and international chefs. We’d like it banned in India too and Kate is passionate about the issue,” says Ambika Shukla of PETA India. She adds, “Metal pipes are forced down ducks’ throats through which food is continuously shovelled until their livers swell ten times their natural size. These swollen livers are turned into foie gras.” This isn’t the first time an international celeb has taken up such a cause. “We’ve had Paul McCartney do a Hindi Go Veg ad and Pamela Anderson featured in a video against the use of leather, that was sent to Indian designers,” says Shukla. << Previous 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Next >> Content Management Powered by CuteNews
